This is no longer a separate option. Electronic W-2s are no longer written to a diskette. In the General Ledger Accountant's Add-On, the electronic file is created by Print W-2 Forms. Choose Export for Social Security Administration and enter the export file location.
The export uses the same screens and choices as the Payroll system. See Payroll Print W-2 Forms for a description of each choice. Upload the file through the Social Security Administration's online Business Services, and check it first with SSA's free AccuWage tool.
Notes
For tax year 2026, ACS is still validating the SSA export. The program tells you if the export is not yet available for the year you choose.
Even when you file electronically, you still give employees their W-2 copies.
